Effective: 16 September 2026 · Addendum to the Scriptly Terms of Service
This Acceptable Use Addendum ("Addendum") supplements and forms part of the Scriptly Terms of Service ("Terms"). Capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning given in the Terms. Where this Addendum and the Terms address the same subject, this Addendum controls to the extent of any conflict. This Addendum takes effect on the date shown above and applies to use of the Service on and after that date; it does not purport to alter, excuse, or retroactively characterize any use of the Service occurring before that date.
Scriptly is a rendering and typography tool. Its function is to take material that you provide or approve and reproduce it in a simulated approximation of a handwriting style that you provide. Accordingly, and as a material term of your use of the Service:
Where an optional feature uses automated or AI-assisted processing to propose content, that proposal is generated from Input you supplied, is presented to you for your review, and becomes part of your Output only because you choose to accept, edit, and render it. You remain the author and the responsible party for everything you render and everything you do with it. The Service's suggestions are unverified, may be incorrect, and are not represented as correct.
You represent and warrant that, for all Input you submit:
A Style Profile may only be built from your own handwriting, or from handwriting you have the explicit, informed, contemporaneous permission of the writer to reproduce. You may not capture, upload, derive, reconstruct, or approximate the handwriting of another real person without that permission, and you may not do so at all for the purpose of causing any person or body to believe that person wrote something they did not write.
You may not use the Service to produce, approximate, or reproduce a signature — your own or anyone else's — for use on any instrument where a signature carries legal, financial, evidentiary, or identifying effect. This prohibition applies even to your own signature, because Output is a simulation and is not a genuine execution of a document by you.
The Service is offered for lawful personal, creative, expressive, and accessibility purposes. Representative intended uses include, without limitation: personal journals and diaries; personal notes, lists, and correspondence intended for the writer's own use; letters, cards, invitations, and envelopes where the recipient is not being misled as to authorship; creative, artistic, literary, and design work; hand-lettered mockups, comps, props, and typography studies; font and lettering experimentation; preserving or archiving a handwriting style; and accessibility use by people who cannot comfortably or reliably write by hand and who have disclosed and are permitted to use an assistive tool in the relevant context.
Scriptly is not designed for, not marketed for, not sold for, and not intended for the production of academic work. Without limiting anything else in this Addendum or in the Terms, the Service may not be used to create, complete, transcribe, or render any material that you submit or cause to be submitted for academic credit, assessment, grading, placement, admission, or evaluation, where doing so would cause the recipient to believe the work was handwritten by you when it was not, or would otherwise breach any academic integrity policy, honor code, examination rule, coursework instruction, or institutional rule that applies to you.
This includes, without limitation: homework, worksheets, problem sets, lab reports, essays, journals, reflections, take-home work, in-class work, tests, quizzes, examinations, admissions materials, scholarship or application materials, and any assignment where handwriting, authorship, or personal completion is part of what is being assessed or attested.
If the rules that apply to you permit assistive or typed production of an assignment, that permission must come from your institution or instructor — not from Scriptly. Nothing in the Service, its marketing, its interface, its feature set, or any communication from its operator constitutes permission, advice, or assurance that a given academic use is allowed to you. Obtaining that permission is your responsibility, and you must obtain it before you use Output in that context.
In addition to the prohibitions in section 4 of the Terms, you may not use the Service, or any Output, to:
Accounts are personal to one individual human being. You may not share, sell, lend, rent, transfer, or provide access to your account or to the Service, operate an account for anyone else, pool an account among multiple people, or charge any person anything for Output, access, or use. Any purported sale or transfer is void, and both the seller and the recipient may be terminated. This restriction applies whether or not money changes hands and whether or not it happens on the Service.
You are not an employee, agent, partner, representative, reseller, or affiliate of Scriptly, and you may not hold yourself out as one, market or promote the Service on its behalf, make any representation or promise about it to any person, or use its name, logo, or branding without prior written permission. Scriptly is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, approved by, or operated in partnership with any school, school district, university, examination board, employer, government body, or other institution, and no such body has reviewed, evaluated, or approved the Service or any Output.
Rules about assistive tools, authorship, and handwritten work vary by institution, jurisdiction, course, instructor, employer, and situation, and they change. You are solely responsible for knowing and following the rules that apply to you, and for determining before each use whether that use is permitted. The Service does not, and cannot, make that determination for you, and does not monitor individual use for that purpose. If you are unsure whether a use is permitted, do not use the Service for it.
Nothing in this Addendum, the Terms, or the Service is legal advice, academic advice, or professional advice of any kind.
You must be old enough under the law of your jurisdiction to enter into a binding agreement in order to hold an account. If you are a minor, you may only use the Service with the knowledge and consent of a parent or legal guardian who has read and agreed to the Terms and this Addendum on your behalf and who accepts responsibility for your use. If you are subject to an institution's rules as a condition of enrolment, you are responsible for ensuring your use complies with them.
We may, at our sole discretion and without prior notice or liability, investigate suspected violations, disable or restrict any feature for any user or for all users, suspend or terminate any account, refuse service, remove or refuse to render any content, and retain records as described in the Privacy Policy. We reserve the right, but have no obligation, to do any of these things, and our failure to detect or act on a violation is not a waiver, an approval, or a representation that the use was permitted.
If you are an institution, instructor, guardian, or individual who believes the Service has been used in violation of these terms — including use of your handwriting, your name, your documents, or your materials without permission — contact us through Settings → Contact support. We will review reports we receive and may act under section A.13.
By using the Service on or after the effective date above, you acknowledge and agree that: you provide the Input; you direct the Rendering; you decide what to do with the Output; Scriptly exercises no control over and has no knowledge of your purpose; the Service is not intended for academic submission or for any use listed in section A.8; you are solely responsible for determining whether your use is permitted by the rules and laws that apply to you; and you accept all academic, professional, disciplinary, legal, financial, and personal consequences of your use. Sections 5, 6, and 7 of the Terms (no warranty, limitation of liability, and indemnification) apply in full to everything in this Addendum.
If any provision of this Addendum is held unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary or severed, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force. No failure or delay in enforcing any provision is a waiver of it. Sections A.4, A.5, A.8, A.9, A.10, A.15, and A.16 survive termination of your account and of these terms.
We may update this Addendum. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date above, and continued use after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Addendum. Changes apply prospectively only.
